Mr Joe McConnell began his legal career specifically in criminal defence and traffic law in 2015, and quickly gained a reputation as a passionate and relentless advocate who prides himself on attention to detail. He has completed two degrees, being a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Journalism and Public Relations with Honours, and a Bachelor of Laws. In 2020, Mr McConnell finished in the top 10 of the “Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30” in the Criminal Law category competing against numerous applicants across Australia. The achievement was significant, as the award identifies the finest young lawyers throughout the entire country.

Mr McConnell’s experience is vast, having defended clients on hundreds of cases of the most serious charges of murder, rape, robbery, and drug trafficking. Recently, Mr McConnell was a part of the ground-breaking Court of Appeal decision of R v Dayney [2020] QCA 264 which saw his client’s murder conviction overturned and a retrial ordered based on a particularly unique and technical legal argument. Over the past several years, Mr McConnell has worked closely and garnered relationships with some of the best barristers in Queensland and is able to offer and provide a true legal team to defend a client’s case.

Commencing a legal practice that focuses solely on criminal and traffic law defence allows Mr McConnell to concentrate the experience he has gained into every one of his cases. He understands that being charged with any offence is one of the most difficult and overwhelming times in a person’s life and works diligently to ensure that his clients are thoroughly advised of each of their options in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
